Living on Conviction

For a class last semester, a teacher wanted us to write out ten principles that we will hang the rest our lives on. These are my ten.

  1. Resolved to be a man. I will not by-pass responsibility and hide in passivity, but I will step out with biblical strength and courage for the Lord’s sake.
  2. Resolved to love the Lord my God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. God will be the all-satisfying center of my life and I give up anything and everything for Him.
  3. Resolved to be a man devoted to the Word of God by turning to no other source of wisdom, teaching, instruction, and council. Scripture will be the guiding light of my life
  4. Resolved to be a man of incessant prayer. Understanding my complete inability and the sovereignty of God, I will be devoted to dependent intercession.
  5. Resolved to be committed to the local church all my days, allowing nothing to stand in the way of this biblical imperative. Whether a full-time minister or not, the body of Christ will always receive all my service.
  6. Resolved to love my family and to sacrifice for their needs above my own. I have a calling within my household and I will do so with all my strength for the glory of God.
  7. Resolved to take risks for the name of Jesus Christ. I will be controlled by the values of heaven and run the race of life in such a way that demonstrates where my affection lies. I will risk all – my life, family, possessions – for the furthering of the kingdom of God.
  8. Resolved to live by faith. I will not worry about the next moment because I place my faith in an omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign God who loves me with love incomprehensible.
  9. Resolved to practice the presence of God each day by walking humbly and depending on Christ for all strength to fight sin and live righteously.
  10. Resolved to live in a manner that I will not be ashamed of when I stand before the throne of God in glory.

Thanks for sharing these things and striving to be a man after God’s own heart. I haven’t been on here for awhile – and I really like the new look (however “new” it is).

Those are really excellent resolutions. No, really. I am thankful to God for your spiritual affections and example.

He might actually be a pastor yet…

“I will risk all – my life, family, possessions – for the furthering of the kingdom of God.”

“Resolved to practice the presence of God each day by walking humbly and depending on Christ for all strength to fight sin and live righteously.”

Quite convicting and rallying , thanks MJ.

5 & 6 are fun to balance. I find 7 very challenging. I am not a risk taker so living this way takes a lot of faith. In light of #7, May the Lord be with you!
