April 29th, 2008 — Personal
Here are a few things the Lord is teaching me right now:
- Our God is great.
- Prayer does something.
- #2 is possible only because of #1
- We are unworthy to serve such a great God.
- Humility is not an virtue, as much as it is a lifestyle.
- A lifestyle of humility comes about when prayer is a priority.
- I am sinner who needs so much grace and I’m glad that never runs out.
- Why did God provide a way for His enemies to be saved?
- Me not sharing my weakness, needs, and burdens with other believers is not showing kindness to them, it is sin (Gal. 6:2).
- Enjoying the process of everyday life is hard and hurtful, and many times it doesn’t make sense
- It is really difficult to watch myself fall flat on my face because I think that everyone around me will think less of me and things will get worse, but everyone running this race with me is scarred and muddy from falling too, but we all keep running because Christ already ran and daily gives us the grace to get back up and take one more stride.
- I’m thankful for the cross, but ashamed that I am not more thankful.

I want to draw your attention to a new sidebar element that I just added. On the right side of the site, a section called “Quotables” lists small quotations that I either hear or read from someone. I like to dig up some great ones from men of the past, but also to snatch some gems from the wise men of today.
Here is a collection of the ones I’ve posted so far:
- “When it rains on our party we assume we planned the party for the wrong time. But maybe God wants us wet.” (Sean Higgins)
- “I am convicted that it takes intense suffering for me to cry out to God to face the daily battle, when this battle always existed but when I was healthy I was numbed to it.” (Andrew Mark)
- “Leadership is having all the service, not the glory.” (Dr. Varner)
- “Every fresh act of sin lessens fear and remorse, hardens our hearts, blunts the edge of our conscience, and increases our evil inclination.” (J.C. Ryle)
- “God’s sovereignty does not negate our responsibility to pray, but rather makes it possible to pray with confidence.” (Jerry Bridges)
- “It is the incessant turmoil of the world and the constant attraction of earthly things that take away the soul from Christ.” (C.H. Spurgeon)
- “Standing in front of God is awesome. Everything else is a misuse of the word.” (Dr. Simons)
