the gospel is for the weak
Here is a great quotation from Paul Tripp on how our weakness does not keep us from Jesus Christ, but brings us to Him. I need these reminders everyday.
“Your weakness does not keep you from your Lord; your delusion of strength does. Because the gospel is for the weak. The gospel is for the unable. The gospel is for the fool. The gospel is a welcome for people who say, ‘I can’t!” But they say that while running to a Redeemer who can. That’s the gospel.”

An old friend once said, “God is not a crutch, He’s my Stretcher”. I think that is a good picture. In our weakness He is made strong.
Chuck, that’s funny that you should mention that quote because in my own meditation on how God helps us, I came to the same conclusion. When I hear students pray, they often move through the list of requests by saying, “Please help ______. And please help _______. . .” etc.
But I think that often when we are asking for help, we see God as more a crutch to get us through rather than a stretcher. It’s deceiving because in both instances we can say that we couldn’t of made it without God’s help, but the perspective is totally different.
good quotes here, thanks for sharing
it’s interesting that sometimes when defending christianity to those who do not believe, we naturally want to assure them that christians are not these “weak” people. the irony is that we are, and so are the people who we’re in conversation with, so acceptance of the gospel is the difference between the two people.
of course there can still be intellectually weak people in terms of how strongly they their own position, but i’d suggest they are found in both camps.
